Willie Ann Laten

Willie Ann Laten, 87 of Hadley, Michigan (formerly of Blountsville, Alabama) passed away at 9:57 a.m. October 15, 2024. She had been under the care of her daughter Pam (with assistance of Hospice) at Pam’s home in Hadley, Michigan. She was born October 18, 1936, in Altoona, Alabama. She was the middle child of the five children of Taylor and Thelma Shelton. She married Claudie Owen Laten on May 24, 1951. She and Claudie moved to Pontiac, Michigan after they were married. They were blessed with the birth of three children. For years, Willie Ann enjoyed being a wonderful stay at home mom and raising her children in Waterford Township, Michigan. As the children grew older, she went to work for the General Motors Parts Division. She was passionate about her work and was appreciated by her teammates. Willie Ann moved back to Blountsville, Alabama (where she was raised) after she retired from General Motors. Throughout her life, Willie Ann was passionate about her children and was instrumental in creating many great memories for them (cooking many treats together, spending many days on the lake together, etc.). She always encouraged them and was always there when they needed her. She was truly an incredibly generous mom and person. She was known for her extreme friendliness and kindness to all people. In her free time, Willie Ann enjoyed gardening, watching game shows, cooking and spending quality time with her family and friends. Being very much a people person, following her retirement and move back to Blountsville, Alabama, she became very active in her church and was very close to her church family. Willie Ann was also very close to all of her family, both near and far. To cherish her memory, she leaves two children: Pam (Frank) Cordner of Hadley, Michigan and Steve (Diane) Laten of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two sisters: Glenda Webb of Remlap, Alabama and Gayle Mitchell of Albertville, Alabama; sister-in-law: Sarah Sivley of Blountsville, Alabama; three grandchildren: Ryan, Alyssa and Nicholas; three great grandchildren: RJ, Logan and Aalia and many nieces and nephews. Her passing was preceded by her parents: Taylor and Thelma Shelton; son: Michael Owen Laten; husband: Claudie Owen Laten; sister: Betty Jo (Robbie) Robinson; brother: Charles (Wanda) Shelton; granddaughter: Chrisine Cordner; some brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews. Funeral Service celebrating her life was 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at Blountsville Funeral Home with Brother Curtis Hawkins officiating. Following her funeral service, her burial took place at Brooksville Cemetery, Brooksville, Alabama. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday at Blountsville Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor are suggested to Grace Baptist Church in Snead, Alabama or the Alzheimer’s Association.
