Shirley Cheatwood

Shirley Doyle Cheatwood of Blountsville, Alabama went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 1, 2024. She was born April 5,1939 in Decatur, Alabama and grew up in Blountsville where she raised her family and was a member of Blountsville Baptist Church since childhood. She graduated from J. B. Pennington High School, class of 1957. She was involved in a variety of clubs and activities throughout the community and was loved by her family and called a close friend by many. Her home was always open, where she received visits from family and friends throughout her life where knocking on the door was optional and if you did knock, “it must be someone important.” She retired from Blountsville Elementary School where she spent her days with children and grew close friendships with teachers and staff that have lasted a lifetime. Being called Nana was the highlight of her life where she enjoyed, loved and admired her grandchildren and felt that her great grandchildren were one of God’s greatest blessings. She will be greatly missed and has left us with endless wonderful memories. She is survived by her daughter: Tina Cheatwood Davis and son-in-law: Gary S. Davis, her grandchildren: Alissa Davis Sanford (Will), Grant S. Davis (Chelsi) and Grayson S. Davis along with her great grandchildren: Chloe and Liam Sanford, Ansley and Gaines Davis; her sister-in-law: Dorothy Doyle; brother-in-law: Harold (Happy) Cheatwood (Faye); sisters-in-law: Gloria Roberts (Bill) and Annette Stansell; along with many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Alton C. Cheatwood and son: Gregory C. Cheatwood both whom she loved and missed everyday of her life; her parents: Clifton Adley and Sue Ella Doyle; brothers: Don C. Doyle, John R. Doyle, Bobby J. Doyle (Charlotte) and sisters: Wanda Doyle Handley and Betty Doyle Smith (Arnon). Funeral Service was held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Blountsville Baptist Church. Family and friends were received starting at 10:00 a.m. with the celebration of her life service starting at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Randall Edmondson officiating. The burial was in the Blountsville Cemetery, Blountsville Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers: Grant Davis, Grayson Davis, Gary Davis, Will Sanford, Don R. Doyle, Sr. and Brandon Prestridge
