Lisa Handley

Lisa Ann NeSmith Handley, 60 of Blountsville passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Marshall Medical Center North. Lisa was born March 3, 1962, in Arab the third daughter of Reverend Clatus NeSmith and Margret Holaway NeSmith. In 1980 she graduated from JB Pennington High School and married James Rodney Handley, December 12, 1980. She enjoyed home schooling her children and working in her yard and all things “granny vintage.” She found beauty in the smallest things. She loved anything and everything in God’s creation. All flowers were beautiful to Lisa, yet her favorite was by far pink roses. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents: Reverend Clatus & Margret NeSmith, sister, Judy Gail Stricklin, grand-baby, Handley and granddaughter, Lillie Jayde Handley. Lisa’s love of music was exemplified by the songs of praise she constantly sang and hummed as she went about life day by day. Music was one of the many avenues of worship to our Lord and Savior. She loved playing the piano and singing with her children and grandchildren. Church was a great part of her life. She got saved when she was a seven-year-old little girl at Ketona Baptist Church in Tarrant, where her daddy was the pastor. She was a charter member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and a faithful member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. For many years, she taught little children in Sunday school, sharing Bible lessons from God’s Holy Word, and making the lessons memorable with songs and activities. Giving is one word that describes Lisa perfectly. She would go out of her way to find the best gift to give others, always wanting to share her bountiful blessings from the Lord and gave freely to everyone she met. We are so blessed to have known her as a wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was a sainted mother who unselfishly cared for others. Her life story is one of service to countless people. She loved everyone. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest source of joy and pride. She was so grateful to God for saving “an ole sinner like me.” His blood is the only thing she would claim as being good about herself. Lisa leaves behind her loving husband of 41 years Rodney Handley, son, Jonathan (Kelly) Handley, daughter Meaghan (Darrell) Avans, grandchildren, Lydia Rose Avans, Gabriel Christian Handley, Garrett Crew Handley, Silas Cade Avans, Mary Caroline Avans, & Abigail Faith Avans, sister, Joyce NeSmith (Ronald) Ingram and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Stanley Jones, Brother Eric Stone, Brother Joel Sims and Brother Earl Harper officiating, Blountsville Funeral Home directing. She will lie-in-state at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tues. at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brother Will Fallin, Brother Mac McHan, Brother Blake McHan, Brother Jonathan Johnson, Brother Mike Quick and Brother Jared Samples.
