Helen Green

Today our family mourns the loss of an incredible woman, Helen Mae Doyle Green, who passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on November 16, 2025. Helen was born in Blountsville, AL April 17, 1929, to Cullen Montrose Doyle and Rhoda Gertrude Posey Doyle. The only girl of 3 brothers, she learned at an early age in order to get what she wanted, she had to toughen up, be loud, and stand tall (a touch of stubbornness didn’t hurt either). Standing at 5’3 she was a mighty force to be reckoned with and carried those very traits throughout her life. She attended JB Pennington High School, was married and had two children (Diane and Kenneth) by the age of 19. After the end of her first marriage, she married William Gerald Green on January 12, 1959, and together they built a life filled with love and an unbreakable bond, albeit life’s challenges. Together they welcomed her third child (Tammy) before moving to Clayton, AL. Helen worked almost all of her life and taught all to emulate her work ethic. No stranger to elbow grease, her employment stretched across many fields; including jobs at a garment factory, Spring Gardens Retirement Community, the family-owned restaurant. Her last place of employment was Headquarters, the hair salon that her daughter, Diane, owned. As a shampoo technician, Helen never allowed anyone to work harder than herself and bested many of those younger than she before her last day of work on March 12, 2020, at nearly 91 years of age. To this day, there are still clients that state no one could ever shampoo as well as she could. Throughout all of her years of working, Helen’s most important and impactful job was that of motherhood and took great pride and responsibility over her family. A gambling woman at heart, she always took the best chances at life. She loved to cook, and ‘Lord-a-mercy’ did she know how, with Thanksgiving dressing to rival the turkey. In return, anything cooked for her was complimented with a, “That’s the best I’ve ever had!” Helen was the matriarch of her family, the backbone and glue that held it together. She cherished moments of having her whole family near and never failed to tell, tearfully, how much she loved each and everyone. No matter the circumstances, her home was always her family’s home and there was no doubt in the lengths she would go for her family. If you ever dropped by unexpectedly, you could always count on 3 things: a smile, a big hug, and the Holy Bible; lying open with her glasses over the chapter that she was reading. She was a member of the Blountsville Methodist Church but also attended Centercrest Baptist church as well. Her faith was enduring and unwavering and there is no doubt whatsoever that she is made whole now in the arms of her Master and Savior Jesus Christ. Helen had many titles: daughter, sister, mother, wife, Aunt, NeNe, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. The most frequently used name by both friends and family, including those that worked with her, was Mama Helen, which she embraced wholeheartedly. She offered a unique love to all; offering a lending hand, a listening ear, a great big hug, or wisdom from the unique Mama Helen dictionary. Helen is survived by her daughter, Diane Gibbs (Ben), her son, Kenneth Osborn (Linda), her daughter, Tammy Henderson (Dennis), her brother, Danny Doyle. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Eddie Green, Brandon Osborn, Beth Renda, Golden Osborn (Leigh), Ry Osborn (Carrie), Britta Kiesler (Brian), 16 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Cullen and Rhoda Doyle, son Carroll Green, and her brothers, Bill Doyle and Grady Doyle. Funeral Service was 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2025, at Blountsville Funeral Home with Paul Brasher officiating. The burial was in Blountsville Cemetery, Blountsville Funjeral Home Directing. Visitation was 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday at Blountsville Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Golden Osborn, Ry Osborn, Braydon Osborn, Christopher Renda, Eddie Green and Stoney Osborn. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Though she is gone from sight she will forever be in the hearts and the memories of her loved ones. She will be greatly missed, but we find comfort knowing her beautiful soul is now at peace. Her legacy and her story have touched so many and will last another lifetime
